Versicor Announces Winner of Ideas to Action Awards Contest

October 7, 2014

Royal Oak, MI – Versicor, an electronics, software and controls development company recently announced the winner of its inaugural Ideas to Action (I2A) awards contest. Versicor judges selected Finding a New Normal (FANN), a non-profit focused on modifying, optimizing, and developing assistive technology to advance universal design, and RNG Idea Lab, a wearable tech start up focused on the 90% of runners in the U.S. that run with “common form,” run faster, easier, and safer.

The awards program is designed to help technology entrepreneurs transform their medical, clean-tech, or transportation project ideas into products. RNG Idea Lab’s product, EOFit, is a wearable running coach that utilizes haptic vibration and audio feedback to alert and coach runners on their form. Finding a New Normal’s (FANN) mission is to simplify daily life, enabling everyone to develop to their full potential by engineering products that solve accessibility issues in the home. “Growing up with a sister with Cerebral Palsy and now having a son permanently disabled from a traumatic brain injury, I am intimately aware of how little things have changed for the handicapped.” says founder of FANN, Ed Slattery, “I started FANN to help initiate that change.”

“We were impressed with how many creative and original product ideas we received and couldn’t limit ourselves to choosing only one award recipient,” said Christie Coplen, president of Versicor, “Though very different companies, both RNG Idea Lab’s product and FANN’s mission stood out above the rest.”

Versicor will provide a combined total of $250,000 worth of electronics, controls and software development services to FANN and RNG Idea Lab. Versicor plans on opening the 2nd round of submissions in the spring of 2015.
“We are thrilled to be selected as a recipient of the Ideas to Action Award for 2014. Versicor’s background and expertise in product development, engineering, and manufacturing is obvious and will be critical assets in our effort to bring our product to life,” says RNG Idea Lab’s President and Co-Founder, Walt Reynolds.
